Winter HVAC Services: Stay Warm, Breathe Easier, and Keep Your Family Safe
Everything your home needs for winter comfort, cleaner air, and peace of mind — all from one trusted HVAC team.
Winter puts extra strain on your home’s heating system and indoor air quality. Service 1st Heating & Cooling helps you stay warm, breathe easier, and protect your family with trusted furnace maintenance, air quality solutions, and safety-focused services, all from one local team.
Why Install a Whole-Home Humidifier?
During January, most homeowners seal their homes tightly to keep the cold out, but that also traps dry air and airborne germs inside. The result? Discomfort, increased illness, and damage to your home. If your house feels unusually dry right now, low humidity is likely the reason.
A whole-home humidifier works with your heating system to maintain healthy indoor moisture levels between 40–60%, creating a more comfortable and healthier living environment all winter long.
Benefits of Proper Indoor Humidity:
When humidity levels drop too low, both your family and your home feel the effects. Installing a whole-home humidifier can help:
- Reduce dry, itchy skin, scratchy throats, and nosebleeds
- Lower the risk of colds, flu, and other winter illnesses
- Protect hardwood floors, trim, and walls from cracking or peeling
- Improve overall comfort throughout your home
- Increase energy efficiency—every 5% increase in humidity can feel like raising your thermostat by 1°
- Unlike portable units, a whole-home humidifier delivers balanced moisture to every room without daily refilling or maintenance.
If you’re considering a whole-home humidifier, Service 1st Heating & Cooling can help you choose the right system for your home and install it professionally for long-lasting comfort.
Important Safety Update: New Carbon Monoxide Alarm Rules in Ontario
Starting January 1, 2026, Ontario’s updated Fire Code requires additional carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in homes that have a fuel‑burning appliance (like a furnace, water heater, or fireplace) or an attached garage. The key changes include:
- CO alarms must be installed on every floor of your home, not just near sleeping areas.
- Alarms must also still be placed adjacent to all sleeping areas.
- These requirements apply to single homes, townhouses, and multi‑unit buildings.
- Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless gas that can be deadly — and working CO alarms are the only way to detect it before it’s too late.
Now’s a great time to check your alarms, replace old units, and make sure your home meets the updated safety standards.
The Benefits of Professional Air Duct Cleaning
Give your home a breath of fresh air with professional air duct cleaning from Service 1st Heating & Cooling. Over time, your ductwork collects dust, allergens, and debris that get circulated through your home every time your heating or cooling system runs.
Hidden buildup doesn’t stay hidden. As air moves through your ductwork, it carries dust, mold spores, pet dander, and other contaminants into the air you breathe. If you could see inside your ducts, you’d likely clean them more often.
Why Clean Air Ducts Matter:
Professional duct cleaning helps:
- Improve indoor air quality and eliminate lingering odours
- Reduce allergy and illness triggers
- Remove mildew, mold, and moisture-related buildup
- Clear drywall dust, pet hair, and dander
- Eliminate insects and unwanted debris
- Reduce dust buildup throughout your home
- Improve heating and cooling efficiency
When Air Duct Cleaning Is Especially Important
Air duct cleaning is strongly recommended if you’ve:
- Recently installed a new furnace
- Just moved into a new home
- Completed renovations or drywall work
- Noticed excessive dust or musty smells
The Service 1st Difference
Not all duct cleaning is created equal. Some companies rely on large negative air vacuums that simply blow air through the ducts. That approach can’t remove stuck-on debris, oily residues, soot, or buildup hiding in corners and crevices.
Service 1st uses the Rotobrush® Air Duct Cleaning System, a state-of-the-art technology that physically loosens and removes contaminants for a deeper, more thorough clean—delivering results you can see, feel, and breathe.

What Our Customers Are Saying...
“After having another company come out and give us 2 very different answers to what was going on with our HVAC system (neither of which were correct), we found Service 1st through recommendations on Facebook. Not only did they send out the owner of the company (Silas), but he was so incredibly thorough and walked us through every step of the way, they were fairly priced and kind.
Would highly recommend this company as they are honest, thorough, and replaced our entire HVAC system quite quickly! Can’t thank Silas and his team enough. Everyone was incredibly nice from the people on the phone in the office to the team doing all the HVAC work.”
